Prevention is Better than Cure:

This proverb is a message for the people who wait for the problem and disaster. The underlying idea of the saying is that it is much better to stop any harm from approaching us than to wait till it comes and ‘then to try to remove it. This waiting can be more injurious for us. It is beyond mauls power to be insulated against sudden dangers and difficulties. But much can be done for the prevention of the dangers and difficulties which can be anticipated.

First and foremost, I strongly feel that it is rather safe to prevent an evil than to allow it to overtake us. We know that bad habits once acquired are difficult to be shaken off. So, the best method would be to avoid acquiring such bad habits. We must have intelligence and foresight. It is our duty to take timely actions to avert dangers.

An example can well explain this saying. We know that, a number of diseases are caused due to the harmful micro organism found in dirty water or carried in the air. So, if we live at a dirty place, drink dirty water and breath in the polluted air, how can we ensure to remain healthy? However, there are a number of medicines and vaccines available in the market against cholera, typhoid, diarrhea, leprosy, etc., but if we live at a clean place, drink pure water add breathe in the clean air, we will be healthy for a ‘long time. Thus, if we prevent the cause of disease, we .need not have to cure them.

We must remember that a discerning and learned man always does his duties and works at the proper time with the view to get more advantages. Prevention from the impending problem always provides more security to us. Most of the problems, which we face in our daily life, can be prevented and stopped by taking appropriate physical, mental and social measures, Once we entangle in a problem, we have to pay more money and-put more labour to come out of it.

A man, who engages in bad habits, becomes a spider caught in a web. He faces more difficulties to shake off these bad habits. Sometimes cure becomes likely to be impossible and we cannot do anything.

In order to understand this crucial difference in day-today life, we must recognize our duties, and always keep then in our mind. We should keep an eye on our future and new problems and work according to the need of the time. If we fail to do this, we lose something. If we are ready to deal and face any problem seriously, we can overcome it easily. We must stand up against all difficulties with a bold heart.

We should be careful and take preventive measures not only in the sphere of health but also in other walks of life. For instance, we should take precautionary measures in buying property in order to avoid being duped. In the same way, we should take measures to prevent damage due to earthquake or fire, while building a house. Similarly, students should prevent the piling up of pending work in their studies in order to avoid pressure during the final examinations. The government should take proper steps while building infrastructure so that loss to life and. property is kept at a minimum in Case of a natural disaster. Businessmen should make investments in the proper areas, keeping in mind the risks involved, in order to minimize losses and maximize profits. We have tp learn from practical experiences in life and put our wisdom into every action we take later on in life; this will help in gaining positive results.

Today, the life of an individual is full of problems and perils. Those among us who don’t have vision and planning may fall victims to these problems. But those people, who can anticipate them and lead a planned life without any scope for a loophole in their personality or action, can successfully curb a situation, which might lead to any such problem. Thus, any problem which may assume a disastrous or detrimental proportion in future can be nipped in the bud with, the help of appropriate preventive measure. However, if we pay little or no attention to the problem in the beginning, it may take a very serious form. So, we may find it very difficult or, even impossible, to deal with. Thus, the proverb

“prevention is better than cure”

is absolutely, right in the practical sphere of human life. It gives us a note of advice. It says that ‘wastage of any kind leads to want. If we want to succeed in our life and achieve our goal, we should be prepared for any struggle.
